Most of the time we see the death date as either oggi - today, or ieri - yesterday. Ocassionally the scribe will write out the date as seen below:
When the scribe makes a mistake, he draws a box around the incorrect entry and writes the correct entry about, as in this example:
The rule is to index what you see, but also the most correct information. In this example, the death is being registered in Acquaviva Platani. The comune of birth is listed as just Acquaviva. The most complete information to index would be Acquaviva Platani. If however, the scribe listed the comune of registration as just Acquaviva, and the nat(a/o) as either Acquaviva or questo comune, you would index it as Acquaviva. If you can’t see it, you can’t index it.
